The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s (APEC) focus on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is to contribute to a more robust and inclusive business environment in Papua New Guinea.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s (APEC) focus on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is to contribute to a more robust and inclusive business environment in Papua New Guinea.

During an MSME debrief session, Director General of the APEC 2018 PNG Coordination Authority Sir Charles Lepani said that the opportunity for locally owned businesses to exhibit during the APEC meetings will contribute to the growth of Papua New Guinea post-APEC.

“MSMEs will remain legacy areas of future growth.

“It is important to understand that as MSMEs you are not only showcasing your businesses, but Papua New Guinean culture and what our people can do,” he said.

Sir Charles also said, “It is important that we show bio-diversity and cultural diversity to our visiting international delegates and their economies that are important to our region”

Over 45 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) attended the session, held by the APEC Coordination Authority, following their involvement during the recent cluster of APEC meetings, which included the Second Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM2), Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting and the Tourism Ministerial Meeting.

The event was an opportunity for MSMEs who exhibited to share their learning, best practices whilst establishing long-term business relationships with each other.

The debrief also prepared the businesses for the upcoming Third Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) in August.

A total of 50 MSMEs exhibited throughout the recent cluster of APEC meetings earlier this month, and over 100 MSMEs have been involved since the beginning of the year.

Leading up to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) in November, Papua New Guinean MSMEs will continue exhibiting at APEC meetings hosted in Port Moresby, including the ABAC MSME Summit on the 10-11 September.
