APEC Third Senior Official Meeting successfully concluded

The APEC Third Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) hosted in Papua New Guinea from August 4th -20th, 2018, has indeed been the busiest APEC meeting cluster hosted by PNG by far with a total of 107 meetings successfully hosted over a 16-day period, says SOM Chair Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu during the conclusion of the SOM 3 cluster.

The APEC Third Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) hosted in Papua New Guinea from August 4th -20th, 2018, has indeed been the busiest APEC meeting cluster hosted by PNG by far with a total of 107 meetings successfully hosted over a 16-day period, says SOM Chair Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu during the conclusion of the SOM 3 cluster.

“Policy meetings are key to PNG’s priorities such as the APEC Food Security Week which played an important role to provide policy direction for food nutrition security in the APEC region with a specific focus on food security in the agriculture and fisheries sectors,” said Ambassador Pomaleu.

He said the cluster also saw the hosting of the 8th Health High Level Meeting which attracted the attendance of Health Ministers and Senior Officials for the 21 APEC Economies.

“This key meeting generated discussions on the importance of transformative primary health care through investment, innovation and collaboration which noted that the primary health care is fundamental to the overall success to PNG’s health care system,” he said.

Ambassador Pomaleu said PNG reported to APEC Senior Officials on the delivery of significant deliverables such as the Dialogue on Harnessing Growth in the Resource Sector which was held on August 18th and the dialogue aim to take stock of APEC’s work, in relation to sustainable and inclusive resource development, identify emerging issues, asses’ potential impacts and identify prospective work for the future in different sectors.

“The other important discussion during the SOM3 cluster includes Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on APEC Post-2020 Vision which brought together eminent economy representatives for the 21 APEC Economies, experts from international organizations and many other stakeholders from around the AEC region.

He added that PNG has done an excellent job in successfully delivering policy outcomes and deliverables across multiple sectoral work streams and logistically, PNG has achieved a mammoth task of delivering 107 meetings over 16-days. “It is a testament to the capacity we have to host a meeting of such enormity, hence meeting international standards,” Ambassador Pomaleu said.
