The 2018 APEC climate symposium has once again brought together scientist, policy makers, and government officers to share knowledge and experiences this week on some of the most updated climate information services by other APEC economies.

The 2018 APEC climate symposium has once again brought together scientist, policy makers, and government officers to share knowledge and experiences this week on some of the most updated climate information services by other APEC economies.

The main aim of this climate symposium is to tackle key climate issues through discussions on cutting edge science, sharing of best practices and policy advancement.

PNG’s Ambassador to APEC and Chair of 2018, Ivan Pomaleu says the way forward in action towards addressing issues related to climate change is to have better informed decisions.

The Ambassador asserted that the value and applicability of climate research plays an important role in decision making among economies.

‘’APEC climate symposium that starts today is a significant contribution to the discussions of information, science and technology.

“It contributes to the Policy Partnership on science Technology and Innovations (PPSTI) as this symposium aims to improve understanding and utilisation of climate science and applicability in ensuring water and food security with theme of regional scale climate forecast information and services,” said Ambassador Pomaleu.

He added that using scientific information to prepare for climate change can create economic opportunities and proactively managing the risks can reduce impacts and costs over time.
