Science and technology vital for economic growth

The workshop on APEC Policy Partnership for Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) identifies that technology can develop growth in societies at the community level and service industry through domestic innovation and systems while networking the APEC region.

The workshop on APEC Policy Partnership for Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) identifies that technology can develop growth in societies at the community level and service industry through domestic innovation and systems while networking the APEC region.

Chairman of the Papua New Guinea Science and Technology Council, Professor Teatulohi Maitainaho said science and technology plays a pivotal role in all sectors from telecommunications to agriculture and fisheries.

Science and Technology are vital for services delivery in the APEC economies during this digital age. Embracing these global changes can impact livelihood.

Maitainaho said the workshop provided opportunity for economies to share ideas and models in service delivery using technology to enhance and progress as well as addressing the challenges in Papua New Guinea and the other APEC region.

The expected outcome of the workshop is to create an APEC Manual on systems and networks with the following reasons:

• To create an enabling environment that stimulates innovation to promote growth, drives the economy and elevates innovation and technology, policies as critical pillars in economic planning, and

• Establish an innovation system – an eco-system, which coordinates the various p layers into a framework which government formulates and implements polices to support the innovation process.
